KATIKU AND ITS DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY

The five-year barangay development plan from 2019 to 2023

This website promotes and tracks the implementation of Katiku's 5-year barangay development plan (BDP). A rural community, Katiku is the largest barangay of President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, in the Philippine's central Mindanao region. Launched in February 2019, Katiku's medium-term development strategy outlines its priorities across sectors and themes for responsive local governance. With a serious treatment of its 100-year history and analysis of its socio-economic condition, the BDP represents the development results the barangay leadership and sector representatives seek to achieve. BDP is also an invitation for partnership with the government units, civil society, the private sector, and the neighboring barangays.

The Barangay Development Council (BDC) at work

What's in the BDP of Katiku?

The BDC brings together the elected councilors of the barangay, its professionals who contribute their subject matter expertise and sector representatives who infuse their perspectives on the development challenges in Katiku. They address these tough questions: What’s constraining our sectors from making progress? What governance failures must we avoid? What project and financial management areas must we improve? How can we work better with partners that deliver tangible benefits? What existing opportunities can we seize upon to help achieve our development targets?

When I and our new council assumed our role last July 2018, the people’s voice was loud and clear. We must deliver. There was no barangay development plan (BDP) to start with, however. As such, formulating the 5-year Katiku BDP was our most urgent priority.

The BDP outlines not only what and how we will deliver but also the picture of barangay development we envisage. BDP is not just a document for compliance. It’s our development Bible, the very heart of everything that we do. Kaya dibdiban talaga! Each committee must do its job to deliver for results.

Eufrosenio Guillermo, Jr., Barangay Captain and BDC Chair
